Raised in Bethalto, Janet graduated from Civic Memorial High School where she started dating Gene Helmkamp when she was a freshman – they married in 1961. They have three children: Todd, Wendy, and Mike.
Both Todd and Mike have continued to assume more responsibility for the management of the business, as Gene and Jan entertain retirement. Janet helped with the business’ bookkeeping, running errands and cleaning the shop. She is an active church and community volunteer.
Spending time in and around Helmkamp Auto his entire life, Michael started off sweeping and sorting parts as a boy before becoming an integral part of the business as he got older. He is an ASE-certified Master Technician and is also certified in various truck categories and parts.
Mike is in charge of parts procurement, helps Todd and Gene with estimating, and assists with making the day-to-day decisions. After graduating from Civic Memorial High School, Mike began working full-time
at Helmkamp Auto. Like Gene and Todd, Mike has attended many classes and seminars, including some in management in California.
Todd attended Parks College, the aviation side of St. Louis University, receiving his associate's degree and graduating with his A&P certification. He continued college for one more year
and then started to work full-time at Helmkamp Auto.
He left Helmkamp Auto
in 1995 to become a contracted instructor for ACDelco. After a few years, he was hired by ACDelco and transferred to Service-Parts Operation in Grand Blanc, MI.
He moved back to the St. Louis Metro area in 2004 as an ACDelco Sales Representative to suppliers. He later decided he would like to re-enter the family business and is now heading up the service side of Helmkamp Auto as well as sharing management duties.
Married with two sons, Jeneane was in the local banking industry and was a real estate broker for 21 years. She has been at
since May 2009, working in the office with Jan. Jeneane developed the Helmkamp Auto newsletter sent out monthly, she shares accounting duties and also serves as a receptionist.
Whitney is a hometown girl. She joined Helmkamp Auto last fall as a part-time utility person. She fills many shoes around the shop and office - cleaning the shop and office, cleaning customer’s vehicles, filing, stuffing envelopes, and what is needed at the moment. We enjoy having her youthfulness and is a real asset to the shop.
A solid, dependable employee, and very likable, Eric started working at
Helmkamp Auto in May 1999. He attends classes and seminars that have become available for our technicians. He holds his Master Technician certificate. Eric primarily works on larger vehicles, including trucks, motorhomes, and RV systems.
David joined Helmkamp Auto
in September 2011. He attended Ranken Technical College from 2001-2003, receiving his Associates of Technology in Automotive Maintenance.
He continued his education through ASE and Chrysler and Ford-based training, acquiring
ASE Chrysler and Ford certifications. Dave has gained experience working in dealerships, supervising for an automotive business and being shift
foreman for a Ford dealer.
Mike joined Helmkamp Auto this summer filling a much-needed spot in our shop. Mike has been a mechanic for many years and excels in air-conditioning and similar fields. Mike enjoys talking about his family, especially his grandchildren.
Scott has worked in the automotive industry for over 20 years. He lives local
and has expertise in the auto and light truck field.
Josh attended a tech school locally and has experience as a major truck facility mechanic.
